Well just when you think it can’t get any worse! What part of the world was not colonized? Prior to European settlers did the indigenous peoples always live in the US? Of course not they came here as well. And once here we’re they in harmony with other tribes and the earth – of course not they killed , enslaved , raped and typically left hunting grounds when food was no longer plentiful. To suggest this is a one dimensional imperfect action by Europeans is the height of ignorance. I guess they can next start CRT classes at the beginning of each Council meeting ? Just to start off on the side of lunacy.

Snarky response: I had know idea anyone cared about this city for anything other than self gain and $.
Sincere response: Jimi Hendrix once wrote: “you cannot have love without truth and understanding”. Taking a moment to reflect on the makeup of the soil from which we grow is probably not such a bad thing. Who knows, maybe it would make micro-, mini-,RV-storage and warehouse developments less palatable… ah… who am I kidding: no one cares about this city for anything other than self gain and $!

I’ve noticed that the Tribal Police which have jurisdiction in the Indian Colony, including the WalMart on 2nd Street, aren’t particularly kind to the native people who are delinquent with their tributes to their Colonialist Oppressors at the DMV. (vehicle registration)

Well I guess if they feel that strongly they can show their support and complete some genealogy to determine from which area their ancestors originated and return.

Immigration is universal to all peoples’ ancestors of the Americas.

On the one hand “recognition” without any corrective action is just empty words. On the other hand those words seem pretty effective at getting folks to self-identify as having a problem with history if they perceive it reflecting poorly on themselves. So maybe they should keep doing this just to get the fragile egos to raise their hands. To those of you complaining- just say where in that statement the lie is.

So many people triggered by a simple statement acknowledging the history of our area. They didn’t propose any radical action. Just a simple statement. I bet many of you celebrate Memorial Day and love talking about the greatness of the “Founding Fathers”. Now you don’t want the hardships endured and sacrifices made by these people acknowledged? Give me a break.

Hypothetically, if you were a council member running for mayor, and you wrote a newsletter talking about council business, do you think you’d make your case for your candidacy in the newsletter? Or maybe even mention it? Or use it to air your grievances about the rest of the council, city management and the (powerful, beloved) local university? Asking for no particular reason.
