Demody Properties just filed for permission to build 500,000 SF of frankenwarehouse space just to the west of Cabellas. Boxes to hold boxes of boxes. This site was previously grandfathered for the replacement Boomtown Truck Stop.

Logistics is the natural competitive advantage the Truckee Meadows has. From the Washo seasonal migrations, to the Emigrant Trail, the transcontinental railroad, the Lincoln highway, gas pipelines, I-80 and fiber trunk lines, a wide valley in the middle of the Truckee canyons is a natural connection and staging point. To the extend that geography is destiny we have to make our peace with regional transport being a big part of our economy. Where should we put distribution warehouses if not on an isolated river bench adjacent to the freeway and exit?
Pretty funny though that they note the freeway overpass is already undersized and congested in the opening discussion, then never mention any plans to improve it.

Gross, we have houses, warehouses, a gigantic gas station (with overpriced gas), a KOA, and a big casino. I forgot the Cabela’s.
It just does not make sense – what’s next a Walmart Supercenter?

The warehouses aren’t as hideous as the SSB tract houses being built right on the freeway further west.
Hopefully someone conditions the approval on painting them in a desert compatible color, but I’m not holding my breath.
